US Open Tennis 2010, begins in New York.

The famous US Open tennis tournament of 2010, began on August 30. The matches will be played on outdoor DecoTurf hard courts, and the tournament will continue from August 30 till the final on, September 12. The venue this year is in the city of New York, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center situated at Flushing Meadows, Queens.

The defending champions this year are Juan Martín del Potro and Kim Clijsters. But Del Porto will not be participating due to a wrist injury. Other notable players who will be absent this year include Justine Henin, who is down with an elbow injury and World No. 1 Serena Williams, due to a foot injury. With Serena Williams not playing, the chances for other women players to excel are present. Kim Clijsters who won against Caroline Wozniacki in 2009 is playing the second grand slam title of her career this year.

The opening day of the tournament will feature Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters and Samatha Stosur in the women’s championships and Roger Federer, Andy Roddick and Robin Soderling on the men’s side.

The tournament will be covered by the CBS, ESPN2 and Tennis Channel in the US, while in the UK, Sky Sports 2, Sky Sports Xtra and Eurosport will be showing the tournament.

The US Open tennis tournament, which was formally known as the United States Open tennis championships, is an annual event that is held in August and September and lasts for 2 weeks. The tournament consists of five distinct events, including the Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles championships. Doubles and Mixed Doubles events for both men and women. As well as additional tournaments for the senior, junior and wheelchair players.
