Two Moons on 27th August, an Internet Hoax.

The disappointing news for all who have been looking at the sky expecting to see two moons, well it’s just another Internet hoax, initially created through a chain of e-mails in 2007.

The e-mail claims that Mars will orbit close to Earth on the 27th August and it will be so bright and easily visible that it will seem like a second moon alongside Earth’s own. The mail also contains supposed timeframe stats which claim that it’s a once in a life-time chance and no one alive today will be able to witness this event, when it occurs again after a couple of hundred years.

The e-mail gains significance yearly to create the same hoax every time and fool people all over the world to stay up and watch the skies for the splendid sight of the two moons.

Revealing the truth behind the phenomenon of the two moons, NASA claims that that the convergence of Earth and Mars is ongoing but the visibility of Mars will never be such that it shines up like a second moon. According to NASA an event same to what is mentioned in the e-mail did occur in the early morning, on 27th August 2003, but it appeared as two small red spots in the sky and not as the propagated two moons.

NASA & other space experts deny the contents of the hoax e-mail and reveal that If ever Mars would come as close to us as our own moon and as is mentioned in the e-mail, then the seas and water tides would be aggravated so much that it would submerge great portions of the continents of our planet.
