The Air Show entitled “Defenders of Freedom” will be ongoing today and tomorrow at the Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha. There is no admission fee for the show and the gates will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Open House and Air Show event is guaranteed to provide quality entertainment and features Ariel stunts never before demonstrated at an air show.
Although the event is free, security measures at the entrance will include hand searching of any bags etc that the visitors will be carrying.
The Air show features will include, The Thunderbirds, known as the best aerial demonstration team of the U.S. Air Force, the Trojan Horsemen T-28 demonstration team, the F22 demo team and also the Smoke-N-Thunder Jet Car. The demo from the F22 team will be a one of its kind novelty demonstration because the F-22 aircrafts are rarely featured in Air Shows.
The Thunderbirds will demo formation flying as well as solo routines, which will feature the F-16s. Also on display will be Otto the Helicopter, the B-25 Mitchell, TBM avenger and Greg Poe’s Fagan MX2, Waco “Mystery Ship”-PT-14 and other such aircraft.
The Offutt Air Force Base lies adjacent to Sarpy County, Nebraska. It is used as the headquarters of the U.S. Strategic Command as well as for the Air Force Weather Agency, and the 55th Wing of the Air Combat Command. The Offutt Air Force Base has been in use for aviation ever since 1918, during World War I. It is named after World War I aviator, 1st Lt. Jarvis Offutt, in 1942 in his honor.
