Brief Overview:
Nokia N96
is the latest Nokia smartphone of the Nseries range of products. It’s a cute stylish and slim phone. It’s the successor to the previous Nokia N95 and it much smaller and lighter phone. In February 2008 the release date of the phone was announced which was September 2008 and it is available in the markets now. The handset was publicly announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona 2008. N96 is available in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Middle East. The version for America and Chna is still to be released.
Generally the frequencies on which N96 operates are GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and for 3G networks are HSDPA 2100 / 2900. In the American version which is still to be released will operate on HSDPA 850 / 1900. The phone weighs 125 grams and its dimension is 103 X 55 X 18 mm (W X H X L), 92cc. N96 got a 16M color TFT screen which is 2.8 inches in display and has resolution of 240 X 320 pixels. The phone can play polyphonic, monophonic, true tones and MP3 ring tones. You can also download from the internet in addition to the ring tones already installed in it. It has vibrator as well as rhythm back light for alerting purposes. It is available in only Black color. The phone book entries and fields are for the first practically unlimited. That’s a very big and advanced feature of this new N96 phone. The phone has the ability to store 30 days call records with descriptions of the calls. MicroSD transflash memory card can be attached to increase the memory of the phone up to 8 GB more than the built-in memory. It got a 16GB internal memory. N96 has a Standard battery, Li-Ion 950 mAh (BL-5F) which gives talk time of 3 hours 40 minutes and a stand by time of 220 hours.
Talking about features N96 comes with a Carl Ziess optical lens camera of 5 MP or 2592 x 1944 pixels with auto focus, flash video of QVGA @ 30 frames per seconds quality. It also has a secondary video call camera. The phone uses Symbian OS 9.3, S60 rel. 3.2 operating system specially developed for itself. It supports SMS, MMS, Email and Instant Messaging services. It got a WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML reader RSS reader for internet browsing. Other important features are Built-in GPS receiver, Java MIDP 2.0, FM radio with RDS, , 3.5 mm audio output jack, Pocket Office, Organizer, Push to talk, T9 support, Built-in hands free and Voice memo/dial function. The phone has a TV out jack from which you can play videos in the phone directly on T.V. N96’s music player can play files of various formats which are MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and WMA. High speed internet connectivity and data transfer is today’s essential need without which a multimedia mobile phone can’t survive in the market. N96 has following technologies:
