Nicole John, daughter of U.S. ambassador to Thailand, who was only 17 years old, fell to her death when she slipped from out of a window of a Manhattan high-rise. She had stepped on to the ledge of the window with a camera, probably to take a picture. She fell down from the top floor of the building and landed dead on the overhanging, ledge of the third floor of the building.
She had taken off her shoes before stepping out on the window ledge and was holding a camera, which was found with her body. The building known as the Herald Towers, which is situated near the Empire State Building, has 25 floors and apparently Nicole fell from the top floor, at about 4:15 a.m. in the early morning.
People who saw her fall from across the street called 911. The police was also informed by the people who found her body on the building.
Police commissioner Raymond Kelly informed the press that Nicole John had left a Manhattan night club with her friends, earlier to come to the building. She and her friends had been partying in the apartment and they were all intoxicated.
Although her death is believed to be an accident, investigations are on-going. The apartment was rented by a 25-year-old man, Ilan Nassimi, who is being questioned in police custody. He was arrested on Friday and has been charged with providing alcohol to minors, which probably resulted in the demise of Nicole John.
Police suspect that there were a dozen people partying in that apartment, at the time Nicole John fell. The apartment had probably been cleaned up to show otherwise, before the investigators arrived at the scene.
Nicole’s father Eric John had been appointed U.S. ambassador in 2007, to the Kingdom of Thailand. She had been studying at International School in Bangkok.
