Michael Douglas has level 4 throat cancer

Michael Douglas has revealed that he has level four throat cancer and he has to go through a treatment of eight weeks involving radiation and chemotherapy. But he says he is optimistic about recovery.

This came as a shock and surprise for all, when Michael Douglas disclosed this news during his appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman“, on Tuesday. The 65 year old, actor said he had already gone through the first week of treatment for his cancer and that “…I’m pretty lit up right now,”

Michael Douglas said that he was suffering from a very sore throat earlier but the ensuing testing had not found anything until 3 weeks ago when he was informed that he had a late stage throat cancer.

Michael Douglas has a history of excessive smoking and alcohol abuse for which he got treatment in the 1990s. However Michael Douglas is very optimistic about his recovery because he says his cancer is still above the neck and the chances of his recovery are more than 80 percent.

Dr. Robert Haddad of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has said that once Michael Douglas gets through he will have to make some necessary life adjustments, he must never smoke or drink again and also avoid second-hand smoke. In case the cancer returns it will be difficult to treat a second time.

Michael Douglas is married to famous actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, with whom he has 2 children. He has starred in such notable films as “Fatal Attraction”, “Basic Instinct”, “Disclosure” and “Wall Street” for which he won the Oscar award for best actor.
