Other residents of the area had been advised to move to evacuation centers established at North Boulder Recreation Center and the Nederland Community Center.

While many of the residents are being evacuated thousands of residents left Boulder County to visit the nearby casinos to enjoy their Labor Day holiday. Of prominence has been Black Hawk Casino’s Ameristar Casino Resort. Colorado Casinos are popular with travelers due to being located in beautiful places and having the games available. It has been a great day for Ameristar due to the large number of people pouring into the casino.

Firefighters continue their efforts to contain the wild fire. The cause of the fire is also still under investigation. It’s reported it could be days before the fire is put out completely. High winds had also spread the wildfires to Oklahoma, effecting almost 300 acres in the Woodward County.

For those who like food and public gatherings, this is one event that is a must going for.

This year the festival features 80 local restaurants, 20 beverage stands which will be offering water, soda, beer, wine and milk. Small food samples will be offered at the booths of the local restaurants which will be priced from $1 to $5 per serving. An amazing number of more than 200 menu items will be available for the attendees to choose from and enjoy. Live music will be playing from 3 different stages with 5 different music formats.

The event is open to the public and admission is free. A “NO-PET” and “NO CARRY INS” policy is in place at the event so you can’t bring your own food or your pets to the event, because apparently at last year’s event, the dogs ate up most of the food.

The Taste of Madison is organized each year, over the Labor Day weekend by ,the Madison Festivals Inc. which is a private non-profit organization. Benefits from the event go to the United Cerebral Palsy of Dane County. The city of Madison is not involved directly in the event, and all expenses including security are paid for by the organizers.

On September 1, North Carolina’s governor, Bev Perdue, had declared a state of emergency as Hurricane Earl approached the East Coast.

“The declaration calls for all state and local governments to cooperate in the North Carolina Emergency Operations Plan,” said the governor.

Some citizens feel that it’s unconstitutional and unwise to confiscate their weapons in a time when crime is bound to rise. They believe they will be left defenseless against the real criminals and predators and also against those who somehow might secretly retain their weapons.

Although it has not been confirmed, whether or not gun confiscation will be a part of the governor’s North Carolina Emergency Operations Plan, the government feels that it would be better if only law enforcement were carrying the weapons.

Until recently Hurricane Earl is approximately on a distance of 300 miles from the south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina and approaching.

According to a Civil Aviation Authority spokesman “The plane encountered technical difficulties after take-off from the Dubai International Airport and the captain tried to land again, but the plane crashed.”

The plane was a 747-400 jumbo jet, which is amongst the world’s largest aircraft, was owned by UPS and was carrying children’s toys and plastic products. The plane was on its way to Cologne, Germany.

Only ambulances and rescue teams were allowed in to the military base which was the crash site. Efforts were under way to extinguish the large scale fire at the base and from the debris of the plane. The teams of firefighters at site were also trying to recover the plane’s black box.

According to official authorities the accident had not affected air traffic or road transport in Dubai. No casualties were reported on the ground. The cause of the crash was also not made clear at the time of the statement.

Witnesses including reporters claim that part of the plane was on fire before it crashed and they saw flames rising from the crash site as well.

“This incident is very unfortunate and we will do everything to find the cause,” Bob Lekites The international operations manager of UPS was quoted as saying “Our thoughts go out to the crew members involved in the incident and their families.”

Christchurch with a population of approximately 372,000 is the second largest city in New Zealand.

The magnitude of the earthquake had originally been estimated at 7.4, but was revised downwards to 7.2 by the USGS.

An aftershock of 5.7 magnitude occurred about 20 minutes later, not too far from the epicenter. Reports from the Local media have indicated power outages throughout the city as the result of the strong aftershocks.

“It was like a freight train running through the house,” Chris Monroe, the operations manager for the New Zealand Fire Service was quoted as saying. Structural damages to houses have been reported also passengers at the New Zealand International Airport said they witnessed mirror damage at the airport.

Currently there was no threat of a tsunami, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. But a local tsunami could be generated by an earthquake of this magnitude especially when the earthquake is shallow.

“Earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within a hundred kilometers of the earthquake epicenter,” the center informed.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre also advised the local authorities of the region to be careful regarding the areas close to the epicenter of the earthquake and to take appropriate action.

Previously in June of 1994, two earthquakes of M6.7 and M5.9 occurred approximately 40 kilometers to the northwest of where today’s earthquake occurred, but these did not cause any known fatalities or huge damages.

Labor Day also marks the beginning of sporting events such as the football season, including the NFL and the NCAA events. The Southern 500 NASCAR auto race was also held on Labor Day from 1950 till 2004.

Although the recent recession has had major impact on the Americans, it still won’t stop them from enjoying themselves this year. They are expected to be spending big time this weekend, which is also an indicator of their improved economic position as compared to last year.

Labor Day is a federal holiday which is observed on the first Monday of the month of September. This year it’s September, 6. The first ever Labor Day of the United States was celebrated in 1882, on September 5, in New York City. It was designated a federal holiday in 1894, as the aftermath of the Pullman Strike, which involved the deaths of a number of railroad workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals which were sent in to control the situation, on orders of President Grover.

The rig is situated nearly 100 miles south of the Vermillion Bay of Louisiana, in the Gulf of Mexico. The oil rig platform is built in what is considered as shallow water, which is 340 feet deep. The rig is operated by Mariner Energy, a Houston based company who have been accused by the Federal authorities of 10 similar mishaps in the recent past.

The 13 crew members working at the rig jumped in to the sea after putting on their water survival suits dubbed “gumby suits” due to which they were easily visible in the sea, to their rescuers. They were picked up by the Crystal Clear, which is a commercial ship and were later flown to land by coast guard helicopters. Only one crew member was reported to have been injured in the accident, who was receiving medical attention at the Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma.

Air traffic restriction has been imposed in a radius of 5 nautical miles, over the affected oil rig.

Coast Guard reported seeing oil near the platform, spread, about 100 feet wide and 1 mile long.

Governor Bobby Jindal informed during a news conference that the fire erupted in only one of the total seven active oil wells, at the platform.

The cause of the explosion is not known as yet.

The hurricane has been classified as category 4 based on the Safir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale and the hurricane is expected to retain its strength of category 4 in the next few days to come.

Currently the hurricane is close to about 205 miles east of the Grand Turk Island.

Several Hurricane Watches and Warnings which are currently in effect point out to the following locations:

Turks Islands, Caico Islands, Southeastern Bahamas, North Carolina and the areas situated northward from there. The U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico will face heavy rainfalls which can result in flash floods and mudslides.

Hurricane Earl has already hit and caused damages throughout the Leeward Islands and also caused flooding in the twin islands of Antigua and Barbuda as well as causing power outages.

Hurricane Earl which started off on August 25, as a Cape Verde-type hurricane gradually developed in to a tropical storm. It maintained winds of 45 mph at the highest for full two days and finally elevated into a tropical storm with wind speeds of 60 mph. Early in the day, on August 30 Hurricane Earl was reported to have further intensified into a category 3 hurricane, and later that same day it was promoted to a category 4 hurricane. It has also been predicted that Hurricane Earl will hit Canadian areas situated towards the Atlantic Ocean.

The defending champions this year are Juan Martín del Potro and Kim Clijsters. But Del Porto will not be participating due to a wrist injury. Other notable players who will be absent this year include Justine Henin, who is down with an elbow injury and World No. 1 Serena Williams, due to a foot injury. With Serena Williams not playing, the chances for other women players to excel are present. Kim Clijsters who won against Caroline Wozniacki in 2009 is playing the second grand slam title of her career this year.

The US Open tennis tournament, which was formally known as the United States Open tennis championships, is an annual event that is held in August and September and lasts for 2 weeks. Disney and Pixar also held a launch event in support for the new online virtual world of Cars.
