The new iPod Nano or the fourth generation iPod Nano is another advanced portable music player from Apple Inc. iPod Nano is basically a mid range in price in the family of Apple’s portable music players. It has “click wheel” found on the iPod Classic. The model has been updated three times since its introduction.. it is designed as amster piece of all the three prvious iPod Nano’s and to eradicate all their problems and incopearte a totally new graphics interface. After the release iPod Nano 4th generation it beated its predecessor iPod Mini in sales and became the highest selling MP3 player. It
was released on September 7, 2005.
Company’s Word:
According to Apple, “The new iPod Nano works with the new iTunes 8 Genius feature, allowing customers to automatically create playlists while on-the-go with their iPod Nano. Users can preview the playlists Genius creates, refresh the list to choose different songs and save Genius playlists to enjoy again later.”
I my self read the whole article about the press conference and the launch of the new iPod in the paper. At the press conference of new iPod launch the CEO of the company said,” The iPod Nano is the world’s most popular music player and we’ve made it even better for this holiday season. We think users are going to love the amazing new design, the automatic Genius playlists creation, as well as automatically going into Cover Flow with just a turn of the wrist.”
Design and Hardware
The new Nano’s most visible change is its shape. Its thinnest ever. iPod Nano fourth generation is just 0.24-inch thick, 1.5 inches wide and 3.6 inches tall , features a sleek new design that beautifully blends a brilliant 2-inch LCD display (320×240 pixels)/204 pixels per inch with gorgeous curved aluminum and glass enclosure. It weighs only 1.3 pounds. In shape it is very much like the first two generation iPod Nano’s .It has totally new and improved user interference. It is available in 9 colors including silver, purple, blue, green, orange, yellow, pink, Red and Black. It has double RAM then its predecessor iPod Nano 3rd generation. It is coming with either 16 GB storage capacity or 8 GB storage capacity. It has led lithium battery which gives a music play back of 24 hours and video playback of 4 hours. The price of the 16 GB iPod is 199$ and the price of 8 GB iPod is 149$. It uses a flash memory no hard drives for storage giving you a skip free storage. The new model’s Click Wheel is ever-so-slightly larger than the previous one, giving you a little more than 1/16 of an inch additional diameter—all of it on the scrolling ring section well just talking it doesn’t seem much improvement but when you will scroll on the wheel you will know as I myself found it much better able to scroll long lists. This new improvement in scroll wheel will reduce the frequency of your finger tipping out while you are scrolling fast. I also like the new Hold switch. The position of the hold switch has been shifted to the top which will prevent accidental button pressing.
Shake it and Change it:
The accelerometer gives you another advanced feature that is shake-to-shuffle. That means if you are listening to music on your new iPod Nano and you are tired and sick of listening to a playlists or the songs in sequence then while listening simply give your iPod Nano a vigorous shake this will do for you. Your iPod Nano will be changed to Shuffle Songs mode and skips you to a random track. If you keep shaking in a row then it will play a brand new track you just stored through the computer via USB cable. Unfortunately, once you shake you go into the shuffle mode and it will play random tracks not from the current running playlists or artist but from the whole memory.
Well on the good side you need to give it a considerably forceful shake to go into shuffle mode. I tested it by attaching it to my arm and I started running to se what happens. Running with the Nano attached to my arm or waist didn’t jar the player enough to activate the feature. Once or twice I accidentally dropped it on the carpet from two feet or so but it didn’t switch on the shuffle mode. In addition, the feature is disabled whenever the Hold switch is enabled. You can also disable the shuffle
mode completely from the settings menu.
4G iPod menu:
the new design of iPod gave it a new vertical shape and to adjust it Apple had to make certain changes in it view. For starters, the Ken Burns effect will do a lot and will work as preview panel. It gives the advantage that it gives a r\graphical view of items which is now is now considerably smaller and can be seen at the bottom of the display. As a result, despite having a narrower screen, the 4G Nano has about 50 percent more room for menu titles and long item names while retaining the same amount of vertical space. Apple also has modified the font making it clearer the never and very easier to read. You can also modify it further by the settings menu. You can also change the preview panel settings and can even disable it completely giving more space to menus to adjust in the screen.
